During eight months since the start of the implementation of a pilot project in Almetyevsk on the recognition of faces using cameras, the system helped to arrest 7 criminals and 26 people who committed administrative offenses. According to the results of technology testing, Tatarstan Ministry of Informatization and Communications together with Regional Ministry of Internal Affairs are developing proposals for further implementation of the system in other regions of the republic.

The system combines 20 cameras installed in public places of Almetyevsk, which recognizes the faces of people from the video stream and compares them with the base of wanted persons. Having fixed a person similar in biometrics to the face of the offender, the system sends message to the computer of the employee of the city police department for taking operational measures.

Developed by a Russian company, the software system is based on a set of machine vision algorithms that help to make video monitoring and data analysis without direct human involvement. Similar technologies are used to ensure security and to increase business efficiency in trade, financial sector and transport.
