In Accordance with the order of Peter the Great, the first issue of a Russian newspaper “Vedomosti” came out in Russia on January 13, 1703. It was the first order about holding a subscription campaign in Russia. More than 3, 000 publications were issued in 1914. In accordance with the decree of the Supreme Soviet of the Russan Federation № 3043-1 dated as of December 28, the Day of Russian Press is celebrated on January 13.
