Digital infrastructure of Tatarstan upgraded: new servers, domestic office, VDI and video analytics

8 December 2025, Monday

Digital Transformation Centre of Tatarstan reported that in 2025, Tatarstan completed a digital infrastructure upgrade, which affected server capacity, government employee workplaces, email services and video surveillance.

Server infrastructure upgrade and import substitution

To modernize the data centre and transition to domestic solutions, 23 servers, two data storage systems and network equipment were purchased. An additional 17 servers and two data storage systems were supplied for the VK WorkSpace and VDI projects.

Introduction of the domestic office package

The transition of workplaces of Tatarstan authorities from Microsoft Office to R-7 Office is being completed. This solution enables the full cycle of office operations to be performed on a domestic software platform. Tatarstan is a leader in the transition to domestic solutions in government agencies.

Transition to VK WorkSpace

Licenses have been purchased and server hardware has been delivered for the implementation of the domestic email service VK WorkSpace in Tatarstan. Load testing is currently underway with 50,000 users, after which a phased transition of users from Microsoft Exchange to VK WorkSpace will take place.

VDI in MFCs: Accelerating performance and data protection

(Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is a technology allowing users' desktops (operating system, applications and data) to be hosted on centralized servers in a data center, rather than on local computers and delivered to users over the network to any device, ensuring secure and flexible remote access)

VDI technology is being implemented in MFC offices. This technology creates virtual desktops for centralized, secure and convenient user access to desktops and applications from anywhere, while reducing IT infrastructure management and support costs. A total of 1,000 workplaces are planned and 620 have been implemented to date.

Using VDI resulted the following:

MFC automated information system launch time has been accelerated from 30-60 seconds to 5-10 seconds;

Workplaces recovery time has been reduced from 2-3 hours to 5-10 minutes;

Handling and safety have been improved by storing data in the data center;

The local administration workload has been reduced by 2-3 times.

Video Surveillance and Video Analytics

A project has been launched to create a unified integrated video surveillance platform with video analytics capabilities for the development of the "Safe City" ICS. The project will enable incident detection, accelerate investigations, prevent violations, and collect analytics for urban planning.
