Digital intercoms in multi-apartment buildings: new opportunities for ensuring security and responding to emergency situations

28 January 2025, Tuesday

The summing up meeting of Tatarstan Ministry of Digitalization discussed an important initiative to install digital intercoms in multi-apartment buildings, helping to quickly inform residents about emergency situations, in particular about threats from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). A digital intercom, also known as an IP intercom, differs from traditional devices in that all intercom tubes are connected to one line passing through the standing entrance. Unlike conventional intercoms, data in digital intercoms is transmitted both via a local network and via the Internet. This allows residents to monitor the space in front of the entrance directly from their apartments, control access via a smartphone or computer, and receive accident notifications.

Digital intercoms are especially important in emergency situations, as they can promptly notify residents of emerging threats and automatically open doors for evacuation to safe zones, interacting with the emergency services of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

In the coming years Tatarstan plans to install 1.1 thousand emergency notification systems for the population (75% of the total volume), which will significantly increase the level of security and the speed of response to emergency events. At the moment, the fastest emergency notification is carried out through the official application of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which can be installed on a smartphone for free.
