Artificial intelligence controls illegal logging and potential forest fires in Tatarstan

Tatarstan Ministry of Forestry together with the Ministry of Digitalization of the republic and Innopolis launched the innovative digital product “Forest Change Service”.

The service is integrated into the geoportal of Tatarstan and allows automatic analysis of forest photos. Artificial intelligence recognizes the changes in the Federal Forest areas and controls illegal logging and helps to find illegal quarries.

The system can also identify areas of drying out of trees, illegal capital facilities and potential forest fires.

In 2021 the priority area of Tatarstan Ministry of Agriculture was the digitization of public services. Today, the department provides 11 state services - four of them are implemented on the Unified State Services Portal of the Russian Federation, the rest - on Tatarstan State Services Portal. For example, these are services for the support programme of young specialists, obtaining an extract from the state forest register, concluding a sale and purchase agreement for forest plantations for their own use and others.
