French producer of microchips is willing to open Development Center in Tatarstan

A French company Sequans that deals with development and production of semiconductor chips for 4G network is willing to open the Development Center in Tatarstan. The company’s Director General Georges Karam made such a statement at a meeting with the Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov.

The meeting was held at the Tatarstan Government House with participation of the Minister of informatization and communications Roman Shaikhutdinov and rectors of the republican higher educational institutions.

Sequans deals with development and production of semiconductor chips for devices working in 4G networks under WiMax and LTE standards. Such chips are used in different mobile devices.

Sequans Director General told that only half of 230 employees work in the central office in Paris. Others work in development centers all over the world. The company is willing to open one of such centers in Tatarstan. Georges Karam said that he was interested in republic’s IT infrastructure and serious scientific potential.

Tatarstan’s PM highly estimated the company’s proposal saying that the republican government was interested in such high-tech companies.

Ildar Khalikov entrusted the Ministry of informatization and communications and other parties concerned with determining next steps in the context of the project realization.
