12 February 2019, Tuesday

On February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrived on a working visit in Kazan to take part in an extended Presidium meeting of the State Council of the Russian Federation on improving the living conditions of the population and creating a comfortable urban environment, got acquainted with the project of Innopolis.

Deputy Prime Minister of the republic – Tatarstan Minister of Information and Communications Roman Shaykhutdinov made a presentation of the IT-city. The minister said that the IT city was built in the shortest possible time, in particular, the foundation stone was laid in 2012 and the city was officially opened in 2015. To date, in Innopolis, there are over 4,000 citizens from 50 regions of Russia and 30 countries of the world. Since the opening of the city, 113 children have already been born here.

Shaykhutdinov also informed about the Innopolis Special Economic Zone and Popov Technopark, where about 100 companies are located and over 2,000 jobs have been created. Local companies attract the most qualified professionals. The wage amounts to 65,000 roubles in the SEZ.

The Minister said that the core of the city is Innopolis University, which ranks second among Russian technical universities and seventh in the rating of higher education institutions in the grade point average of the Unified State Examination.

However, the basic educational programme of the IT-university is not funded from the budget, but completely by the sponsoring enterprises, which is an appreciation of the high quality of the university by the industry.

At the end of the presentation, Shaykhutdinov, using the example of the Innopolis SEZ, emphasized the problem of the lack of unified approaches in state support measures in development of institutions operating in the same field, for example, in IT.

Putin thanked for the presentation and also left a memorable note on the photo of the Popov Technopark.
