As many as 239 teachers in Tatarstan to start teaching artificial intelligence classes in schools
This September, schools and colleges in Tatarstan will launch extracurricular clubs on artificial intelligence. As many as 239 school teachers and 100 college instructors, who will teach schoolchildren, will receive one-time payments of 258,000 roubles. The list of instructors has already been approved by an order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Tatarstan.
The educators eligible for payments were selected based on the results of a competition. Teachers with a workload of at least 18 hours per week at their primary workplace or 9 hours per week in a part-time capacity were eligible to participate. Each candidate was required to submit an individual teaching plan. Upon receiving the payment, the teacher is obliged to lead AI clubs for at least one year.
The AI clubs will cover Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, as well as Nizhnekamsky, Almetyevsky, Leninogorsky, Pestrechinsky, Yelabuzhsky, Chistopolsky, Mamadyshsky regions and others. In Kazan, classes will be offered at Boarding Lyceum No. 7, Russian-Tatar School No. 129, Gymnasiums No. 107, 180, 189, Schools No. 18, 24 and other institutions.
Over 3,500 students in grades 5–8 will participate in the clubs annually. The programme is structured in levels: students in grades 5–6 will learn to work with neural networks, formulate prompts correctly and create simple projects. By 7th grade, students will progress to building their own AI agents.
In parallel, clubs will be launched in IT-focused colleges: Kazan College of Information Technology and Communications, Naberezhnye Chelny Technological College, Leninogorsk Polytechnic College, Laishevsky Technical and Economic College, Nizhnekamsk Polytechnic College named after Korolev and others. At this level, 1,500 students will be able to participate annually, with instruction provided by 100 instructors.
To prepare educators for the launch of these clubs, professional development programmes have already begun in the republic. School teachers and college instructors are learning to work with neural networks and to design AI agents.
The new clubs will enable the training of artificial intelligence specialists at various educational levels, starting from school. This is part of the regional AI development programme for 2026–2030, for which workforce development is a key priority. Tatarstan plans to cultivate its own generation of specialists who will work at regional enterprises and develop new AI projects.
