Postmen in the villages of Tatarstan to receive additional support from the republic

15 April 2026, Wednesday

The Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov approved the decision of Tatarstan government to allocate 55.3 million roubles from the regional budget to support 2,300 employees of rural postal offices in 2026.

For many villages, the post office is more than just a place to receive letters and newspapers — it is often the only way to access pensions, pay utility bills, order goods or send parcels to loved ones. When postal workers leave and offices close, residents are cut off from communication with the outside world.

"Postal workers often serve as the sole interlocutors, main source of news and vital link with children and grandchildren for elderly residents. Subsidies help support industry staff and sustain postal branches in rural settlements," Tatarstan Minister of Digitalization Ilya Nachvin explained.

Currently, over 1,100 postal service points with more than 870 located in rural areas operate in Tatarstan. In 2025, postal employees delivered 55 million letters, 16 million newspapers and magazines and 263,000 pensions to residents of the republic.

The support will be provided as a one-time payment at the end of 2026. Similar measures were implemented in 2024 and 2025, and they are already helping to retain personnel in the sector, ensuring stable service for rural residents.
