Tatarstan residents prefer trips around Russia for May holidays

The MTS Travel hotel booking service analyzed trips abroad on the long May weekend. The number of Tatarstan citizens who left the country on holidays did not exceed two percent of the total Russian tourist flow.

Residents of Moscow and the Moscow region traveled most actively on May weekend, they made 38 per cent of such trips, followed by residents of St. Petersburg (7 per cent) and residents of the Krasnodar Territory (6 per cent).

The number of Russians traveling to far-abroad countries doubled, while the flow of tourists to neighboring countries (CIS, Georgia and Abkhazia) decreased by 7 per cent year-on-year. According to MTS Travel, the most popular foreign countries among Russians are Belarus (27 per cent of all subscribers traveling abroad), Turkey (17 per cent) and Kazakhstan (13 per cent). Last year, Kazakhstan ranked second among foreign countries with a share of 17 per cent, and Abkhazia ranked third with 10 per cent. In 2023, Abkhazia went down one position in the ranking and entered the top five along with the United Arab Emirates - their shares in the total tourist flow abroad amounted to 6 per cent.
