Radio Day is celebrated on May 7 in Russia

Tatarstan Minister of Information and Communication Roman Shaikhutdinov congratulated communication workers on professional holiday.

Dear colleagues! I’d like to congratulate you on professional holiday of all communication workers - Radio Day!

This day in 1895 Aleksandr Popov demonstrated the world’s first radio receiver. In Russia in was the beginning of radio communication. In May 1925 the 30th anniversary was officially celebrated. USSR Council of People's Commissars approved the Organisation committee for celebration of 30th anniversary of wireless telegraphy invented by Aleksandr Popov.

By the end of 2012 there were 1,7 mln landline phones in Tatarstan. The coverage level of broadband Internet made 70 %. 2 mln electronic services are rendered annually in the republic. All these achievements consist in your daily work. I’m sure that together we will achieve more impressive results in development of infocommunication infrastructure.

I’d like to express special words of gratitude to our veterans, and participants of Great Patriotic War. Thank you for your heroic deed!
