Ayrat Khayrullin presents a new AI system for detecting COVID-19 to Tatarstan President

20 June 2020, Saturday

On June 20, during a working visit of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov to the Regional Clinical Hospital, Tatarstan Minister of Digitalization of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications Ayrat Khayrullin introduced the development of suspicion on COVID-19 in residents based on computed tomography (СT scan) images, developed by Digital Transformation Centre of the republic with the help of RADLogics to Minnikhanov. It significantly reduces the time for identification and diagnosis.

The application uses artificial intelligence technology. What does it look like? A person arrives at the hospital, where doctors take the necessary tests and do the chest CT.

CT scans are automatically uploaded to a system where artificial intelligence analyzes them.

AI analysis consists of:

• visual component - the CT scan shows the color changes in the lungs that are characteristic of pneumonia caused by COVID-19;

• textual component - a detailed report to the doctor’s usual workplace. It contains all the medical parameters: volume and percentage of lung damage, classification according to the degree of lung damage, etc. Minnikhanov praised the new system and said that Tatarstan doctors were the first in Russia to “meet” with coronavirus infection.
