Wikipedia celebrates its 18 years anniversary!
On January 15, 2001, Wikipedia officially appeared - a publicly available multilingual online encyclopedia with free content. Its name is derived from the English words wiki (borrowing from the Hawaiian language, "fast") and encyclopedia ("encyclopedia").
The Wikipedia community consists of active users (volunteers), who write articles for the encyclopedia and also teach others how to do it. Wikimedia non-profit charitable foundation supports the work of “Wikipedia” and a number of other Wiki projects such as “Wiktionary”, “Wiktionatnik”, “Wikinews”, “Wikiversity”, “Wikigid”.
Representatives of Tatarstan are among the wiki volunteers. They generate content for the Tatar “Wikipedia”, established more than 15 years ago. Due to the constant work of more than 80 enthusiasts, it already contains over 82,000 articles in the Tatar language.
