First in Europe an autonomous taxi launched in Tatarstan
On August 28, in the city of Innopolis, Tatarstan Government and Yandex Company, with participation of Deputy Prime Minister of the republic – Tatarstan Minister of Informatization and Communication Roman Shaikhutdinov and Director General of Yandex Company in Russia Elena Bunina signed an agreement on development autonomous transport in the republic, which envisages the establishment of test zone for traffic in the city of Innopolis.
“The Yandex began active testing of autonomous vehicles last year and the company's car drove almost 800 kilometers from Moscow to Kazan in an automatic mode for the first time this summer. The technology of unmanned driving is one of the key issues for us. We are sure that they will be implemented in public transport, car-sharing or, for example, in a taxi in the next few years. This will make transportation cheaper, more affordable, and, what is most important, safer,” Bunina assured.
