Maksut Shadayev calls Tatarstan one of the first regions to start issuing e-passports in 2022

19 October 2021, Tuesday

On October 19, speaking at the All-Russian marathon "New Knowledge", Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadayev said that Moscow, Moscow region and Tatarstan in 2022 can become pilot areas for the introduction of e-passports in 2022.

In 2019, the Russian authorities introduced a prototype of an e-passport - a plastic card with a chip. Initially, they were expected to appear in Russia in the first half of 2020, but the pandemic delayed work on the project. It is expected that the introduction of an e-passport will be gradual - citizens all over Russia will be able to obtain them no later than July 1, 2023.
