Carnegie Mellon starts creating federal IT University in Russia

On September 17-22, Carnegie Mellon delegation led by the Chief Executive Officer Gil Taran will visit Russia to assess the situation with IT personnel training in the country, administrative director of the federal IT University Dmitry Kondratiev informed. Academic director of IT University, professor of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology Aleksandr Tormasov will accompany the delegation.

To the point, the Tatarstan Government and educational branch of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) iCarnegie (Pittsburgh, USA) signed Memorandum of Understanding on September 4.

An international educational center of federal significance for training IT specialists is meant to be established in Tatarstan. iCarnegie is expected to develop a world-known educational system that will comprise a world-class scientific-research and educational IT university, foundation program for secondary schools, and a range of opportunities for professional education and training of top managers.

Carnegie Mellon uses the process of “reverse engineering” upon developing programs, starting from determining the results of education. A number of meetings with members of federal and regional governments aimed at achieving consensus in the context of the project and developing general idea, negotiations with IT employers for defining requirements for future graduates and representatives of the educational sphere engaged in IT sector, teachers and students will be held during the visit.

After assessing the situation, the project group will present a detailed written report with recommendations on further realization of the project with Carnegie Mellon University and iCarnegie to the Tatarstan Government and parties concerned.
