Carnegie Mellon University in Tatarstan

On September 3-5 Tatarstan delegation headed by the President Rustam Minnikhanov will visit Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, USA), a private university and research center Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).

Rustam Minnikhanov is accompanied by Tatarstan’s Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of informatization and communications Roman Shaikhutdinov, rector of the Kazan Federal University Ilshat Gafurov, and founder of Parallels company Sergei Belousov. The trip is aimed at signing Memorandum of understanding with iCarnegie (educational subdivision of CMU).

iCarnegie will be the partner of the project on creating international educational center for annual training 5 thousand IT specialists in Russia.

CMU is one of the best educational institutions training specialists in the sphere of computer science. Almost 150 thousand students in 20 countries were taught and 1 thousand teachers trained by iCarnegie and its partners. CMU graduates and employees founded many leading IT companies, including Sun Micro and Java language. Among graduates are 15 Nobel laureates and Turing prize winners.

iCarnegie will develop a world-known educational system for Tatarstan that will comprise a world-class scientific-research and educational university giving bachelor’s and master’s degrees, schools for general education and a range of opportunities for professional education and training of top managers.

Tatarstan intends to double revenue from the sector of information and communication technologies from 3.5 to 7 percent. First students will enter new university in 2013.
