Tatarstan Ministry of Digitalization warns about a new scheme of telephone fraud

11 August 2023, Friday

Phone fraudsters introduced the so-called «zero stage of fraud» - a message from a colleague.

Pretending the employee or partner, the attackers convince the potential victim that a coming call cannot be ignored. Then, according to the standard scenario, a call is received from an alleged representative of law enforcement agencies, and then - from a «representative of banks».

The victim is forced to transfer his or her money to a certain card, as well as to take credit and, for example, to put the funds into someone else’s account through an ATM. Another link in the chain increases the credibility of the caller. In addition, intruders constantly change the communication channel and transfer communication from one contact to another. For the implementation of «zero phase» fraudsters often use stolen accounts of other users, the number of which has increased recently.

The main purpose of intruders is to mislead, get data card numbers, pin codes, account numbers, and sometimes even issue a loan for a large amount.

In this regard, Tatarstan Ministry of Digitalization of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications urges everyone to be vigilant, not to disclose personal and financial data to unauthorized persons under any pretext or in any way tried to find out (phone call, website, e-mail)
